Cuisine d’été de
La Tablée des Chefs
Through the cuisine d’été (summer kitchen), La Tablée des Chefs wants to bring awareness to young people regarding the pleasure of eating well and develop their interest in a healthy diet, all in a pleasant environment. The objective is to impart culinary knowledge to less fortunate youth throughout Quebec in an ideal location; a countryside outdoor recreation center.
After a few years spent at the outdoor center “P'tit Bonheur“(formerly camp Taillevent) where the first culinary camp was held, La Tablée des Chefs established its cuisine d’été at the outdoor center “Bon Départ”.
Thanks to a partnership between the Bon Départ Foundation of Canadian Tire in Quebec, the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation, and La Tablée des Chefs, young people spend 12 consecutive days at the “Bon Départ” outdoor center to enjoy the " cuisine d’été" experience. Our partners who provide food sponsorships are also essential to the success of this project.
The culinary activities, which make up part of the regular program during their stay, provide an introduction to cooking and nutrition to the 500 campers between the ages of 6 and 15 who attend the camp each summer.
The youth participate in preparing their breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks in order to learn a few cooking techniques. In doing so, they discover certain foods and realize that they too can cook healthy meals!
In addition, the youth participate in nutrition workshops to discuss their diet while discovering new products and new flavours. In addition, several volunteer chefs spend a few hours with them to share their knowledge and passion for their profession. Lastly, sports personalities are also invited each year to the camp to share their passion for a healthy lifestyle and to introduce physical activity as a way of life.
